Obituary for Sherry Lynn Phelps Ward
Sherry Lynn Phelps Ward, 60, of Roper died Monday, October 1, 2012, at her residence in Roper. Born November 20, 1951 in Washington County she was the daughter of the late Nathan Carney Phelps and Ella Mae Jones Phelps and was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Lois Phelps and Maysel Phelps Ashe. Sherry began her working career as a payroll clerk with Weyerhaeuser Corporation and later worked as a child support agent with the Washington County Department of Social Services until her retirement. She was a former board member of Weyco Credit Union and member of Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church. Her family includes her husband, Francis Gray Ward of Roper, N.C.; daughter, Ashley Ward Culbertson and husband Adam of Roper, N.C.; son, Nathan Stephen Ward and wife Kristi of Bear Grass, N.C.; sister, Glenda Phelps Hall of Yorktown, VA.; brother, Nathan Darrell Phelps and wife Susie of Roper, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael Weigand, Kenleigh Ward, Zoe Ward and Kaden Culbertson. Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor David Bryan and Pastor Ralph Leggett officiating. Burial will follow in Windley Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
