Obituary for Raymond Leroy Hassell
Raymond Leroy Hassell, 91, of Plymouth died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Roanoke Landing Nursing Center in Plymouth.
Born July 2, 1920 in Washington County he was the son of the late Luther A. Hassell and Tempie Overton Hassell and was preceded in death by his brother, Nathan E. Hassell; sisters, Martha Jane Phelps, Ethel H. Furlough, Ira H. Johnson, Selma H. Overton and Matoka H. Spruill. Mr. Hassell retired from Weyerhaeuser Corporation with forty-four year's service and served as an elder, deacon, and Bible School Superintendent of Plymouth Church of Christ for many years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and president of Albemarle Hunting Club for thirty years.
His family includes his wife of seventy-two years Olive Respess Hassell of Plymouth, N.C.; daughters, Greta H. Barber and husband Bobby and Wanda H. Williams and husband Dennis of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Gene R. Hassell and wife Linda of Columbia, N.C., Gary L. Hassell and wife Susan of Greenville, N.C.; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral service will be held Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Plymouth Church of Christ, Plymouth with Bob Moulden officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Plymouth Church of Christ Family Life Center and other times at the residence.
