Obituary for Milton Vernon Cahoon, Jr.
Milton Vernon Cahoon, Jr, 87, of Creswell died Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at his residence in Creswell.
Born July 30, 1929 in the Gum Neck Community of Tyrrell County, he was the son of the late Milton Vernon Cahoon, Sr. and Florence Cuthrell Cahoon Liverman and was preceded in death by his first wife Ollie Vera Beasley Cahoon. Vernon was a retired farmer and businessman and attended Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church. He was a Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of North Carolina Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Columbia Chapter No. 281 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Providence Lodge No. 678, AF & AM of Columbia.
His family includes his wife, Shirley Grissom Hamilton of Creswell, N.C.; daughters, Connie Cahoon Liles and husband Joel of Garner, N.C., Verna Kaye Whitehurst of Columbia, N.C.; son, Milton Vernon Cahoon, III and wife Angie of Creswell, N.C.; son-in-law, Larry Whitehurst of Garner, N.C.; sisters, Naomi Cahoon Fulcher and Alma Dean Cahoon Cooper and husband Durwood; grandchildren, Michelle Baker, Elizabeth Cahoon and Milton Vernon Cahoon, IV.; step-children, Edie Hamilton and husband Med Aziz and Billie Hamilton; step-grandchildren, Alex Aziz, M.J. Evans and Leigh Foushee and numerous great grandchildren.
He will be especially missed by his nieces and nephews and his extended Masonic and Eastern Star family.
The family would like to extend heart felt thanks to Irene Cavall and the entire staff of the Columbia Medical Center.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Reverend Delma Cribb and Reverend Tom Hallberg officiating. Family will receive friends following the service at a reception at Providence Lodge No. 678 in Columbia and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Hermon Methodist Church, 951 Weston Road, Creswell, N.C. 27928, Grand Chapter Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 97, Thomasville, N.C. 27361 or charity of choice.
Graveside Masonic Service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 am at Azalea Memorial Gardens, Columbia. Family will receive friends following the service.
