Obituary for Melvin Wayne Furlough
Melvin Wayne Furlough, 74, of Roper died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Three Rivers Nursing Center in Windsor. Born February 10, 1938 in Washington County he was the son of the late Herbert Furlough and Mamie Davenport Furlough and was preceded in death by his sister, Frances F. Prendergast and brothers, Russell Furlough and Bobby Furlough. Wayne retired with 35 years of service with Weyerhaeuser Corporation. He enjoyed his family and took great pride in his grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and made many memories fishing with his grandchildren. He was passionate about Relay for Life and worked to promote a cure for cancer. He was a member of Plymouth Church of Christ. His family includes his wife of 53 years, Harriet Bray Furlough of Roper, N.C.; daughter, Lisa Furlough Latham and husband Jeffrey of Pungo, N.C.; son Stephen Wayne Furlough and wife Lynne of Roper, N.C. brother, Leo Furlough of Plymouth, N.C.; grandchildren, Chandler Furlough, Chase Furlough, Brent Harris, Dustin Latham and Colby Latham. Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 11:00 am at Plymouth Church of Christ with Bob Moulden officiating. Burial will follow in Zions Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Plymouth Church of Christ and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
