Obituary for Martha Davenport Bright Hawkins
Martha Davenport Bright Hawkins, 89, of Columbia died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Roanoke Landing in Plymouth. Born August 4, 1925 in Chowan County she was the daughter of the late Carlie Benjamin Davenport and Minnie Brickhouse Davenport and was preceded in death by her husbands, Warren Hardin Bright and Andrew Hawkins; sisters, Vera D. Butler and Elizabeth D. Lassiter; brothers, Gilford Davenport and Carlie Davenport; son-in-laws, L.A. Davenport and Dickie Swain; grandchildren, Lyndoria Hodges, James R. Davenport, Alfred L. Davenport and Tony W. Swain. Mrs. Martha was a retired nurse with Washington County Hospital, member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 40 and member of the Assembly of Praise. Her family includes her sons, Bobby Bright of Milo, FL. and J.C. Bright of Nashville, N.C.; daughters, Mable B. Davenport of Columbia, N.C. and Sue B. Swain of Creswell, N.C.; sister, Nelda D. Jones of Havelock, N.C.; brother, Edmond Davenport of Edenton, N.C.; eleven grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; special granddaughter, Rose Simpson and special friends, Lottie Roughton and Betty Brickhouse. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Pastor Elmo Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the funeral home following the service. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
