Obituary for Hilara Horton Waters
Hilara Horton Waters, 99, of Plymouth died Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Roanoke Landing Nursing Center in Plymouth. Born September 1, 1912 in Washington County he was the son of the late Timothy Holmes Waters and Bertha Callaway Waters and was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Leggett Waters; sister, Ida Mae Noel; brothers, Hugh Paul Waters, Clarence 'Nike' Callaway Waters and Clyde Timothy Waters; great niece, Tina Waters Segar. Hilara was retired from Weyerhaeuser Corporation and was the oldest current member of Christian Hope Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II having served on the U.S.S. Idaho and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. His family includes his nieces, Mary Clyde Waters of Raleigh, N.C. and Robin Courtney of Richmond, VA; nephews, Bruce Waters and Wayne Waters of Plymouth, N.C.; sister-in-law, Frances Waters of Richmond, VA; great nephews, Glenn Courtney, Christopher Segar, Thomas Segar and Eric Segar. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Reverend Robert Travis officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday, December 26, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth and other times at the home of Clyde and Edith Waters. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
