Obituary for Gladys Etheridge Thomas
Gladys Elizabeth Thomas, 92, of Norfolk, Virginia formerly of Columbia, was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother, went to be with God on April 6, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida, with family at her side.
Gladys was born October 26, 1925 in Columbia, North Carolina to Jessie M. Etheridge and Annie Copeland Etheridge. She had three sisters; Alethia Etheridge Jones, Kathleen Swain and Polly Oliver as well as a brother, Jessie Allen Etheridge who all preceded her in death.
In 1945 she married the love of her life Malcom "Tex" Errol Thomas and they spent sixty-four inseparable years together until he preceded her in death. Their life was lived by faith in God and knowing they would spend eternity together.
They had one son, David Errol Thomas born on March 24, 1946. He also preceded her in death.
Gladys is survived by three grandchildren; David Rogers and wife Lori of Nashville, TN., Brandy Hicks and husband Robert of Port Richey, FL., Sabrina Walrath and husband Todd of Jacksonville, FL. and adopted granddaughter Carol Ann Hughes and husband Rob of Norfolk, VA. and their families including great and great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Her beautiful smile, infectious attitude and warm heart will be remembered for generations to come, until we see you in heaven Grandma, you will be remembered in our hearts.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Sound Side Free Will Baptist Church in Columbia, North Carolina with Reverend Royce Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church, 5520 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509.
