Obituary for Elmer Seaton Hassell
Elmer Seaton Hassell, 91, of Columbia died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Vintage Inn Nursing Center in Williamston.
Born January 23, 1920 in Tyrrell County he was the son of the late Jerry Steven Hassell and Lula Dodge Hassell and was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Brickhouse Hassell; granddaughter, Amy Hassell Norman; step-sons, James Hillard Wilson and Woodrow Wilson; sisters, Mary McNamara, Della Davenport and Gerri Lee; brothers, Charlie Hassell, Lymon Hassell, Stevie Hassell, Melvin Hassell, Wilbert Hassell and Ray Hassell. Elmer was a retired draw bridge operator with the N.C. Department of Transportation, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and member of Sound Side Missionary Baptist Church.
His family includes his sons, Leonard C. Hassell and wife Martha of Thomasville, GA., Elmo E. Hassell and wife Ernestine of Columbia, N.C.; sister, Margie Arena of Elizabeth City, N.C.; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Sound Side Missionary Baptist Church, Columbia, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Sound Side Missionary Baptist Church and other times at his son Elmo's residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
