Obituary for Dr. Arthur L. Whitehurst
Dr. Arthur Loyd " Red" Whitehurst, 86, of Raleigh and formerly of Plymouth died Thursday, August 11, 2011, at The Oaks At Mayview in Raleigh, N.C..
Born April 29, 1925 in Pitt County he was the son of the late Samuel Whitehurst and Martha McGlohan Whitehurst and was preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy W. Levin and Martha W. Mills. Dr. Whitehurst was self-employed and retired after sixty years service as a chiropractor where he worked side-by-side with the love of his life, his wife Betty. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, member of the The Amercian Red Cross Plymouth Chapter, Gideons International, Boy Scouts, American Legion, Lions Club, Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship, Lay Speaker for Rehobeth Methodist Church and member of Plymouth United Methodist Church.
His family includes his wife Betty Brokaw Whitehurst of Raleigh, N.C.; daughters, Marie W. Gardner and husband Jerome of Raleigh, N.C. and Marsha L. Whitehurst of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Lula Mae Wilson of Winterville, North Carolina and Carolyn W. Tucker of Lindale, Texas; grandchildren, Eric Gardner and Kristen Gardner.
Funeral service will be held Monday, August 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Reverend Frank Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Monday, August 15, 2011 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Plymouth United Methodist Church or charity of choice.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
