Obituary for Cleveland Monroe Paylor, Jr.
Cleveland Monroe Paylor, Jr., 99, of Plymouth died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth. Born March 19, 1914 in Dillon, S.C. he was the son of the late Cleveland Monroe Paylor, Sr. and Roxie Lee Case Paylor and was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Wheless Paylor, sons-in-law, Pat McDuffie and Bob Peffley; sister, Dorothy Paylor Edwards and an infant brother. Mr. Paylor was a 1933 graduate of Petersburg High School in Petersburg, Va. and completed numerous professional courses at UNC, ECU and the University of Chicago. He served as town manager of Plymouth for over 27 years, and had previously served as town manager of Ayden and Farmville. He served on the board of deacons at First Baptist Church of Farmville, Ayden and Plymouth. He was a former member of the Rotary Clubs of Plymouth, Ayden and Farmville, where he served as president. His family includes his daughters, Harriett Paylor McDuffie Peffley of Lynchburg, Va. and Marian Paylor Sumrell and husband Doug of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Neill McDuffie and wife Christin of Richmond, Va., Chris Sumrell and wife Jennifer of Wichita, KS. and Alan Sumrell of Savannah, Ga.; great grandchildren, Aidan McDuffie and Tyler Farley of Richmond, Va. Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, Plymouth with Reverend Jimmy Hagwood officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Plymouth or First Baptist Church of Farmville. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
