Obituary for Capt. Donald Walter Schwanke, USMC
Capt. Donald Walter Schwanke, 82, USMC Retired, of Plymouth died Thursday, January 1, 2015, at his residence in Plymouth. Born September 24, 1932 in Plymouth, Wisconsin he was the son of the late Edward Walter Schwanke and Catherine Harden Schwanke and was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen S. Herrington. Capt. Schwanke retired from the United States Marine Corps with 30 years service and served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. After his retirement he was a security shift supervisor at Weyerhaeuser Corporation and a member of Zion's Chapel Church of Christ. His family includes his wife, Ruth Spruill Schwanke of Plymouth, N.C.; daughter, Carolyn S. Vaughan and husband Leonard of Garner, N.C.; adopted daughters, Susan Doughtie and husband Jay of Aulander, N.C. and Terri Graham of Plymouth, N.C.; sister, Elinor S. Klump of St. Francis, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Rodger Doughtie and Luke Doughtie. Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Zion's Chapel Church of Christ, Roper with Mark Wilmoth officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth and other times at the residence. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Zion's Chapel Church of Christ. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
