Obituary for Allen Robert Sawyer
Allen Robert Sawyer, 83, of Creswell, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Sentara Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, NC.
Born September 14, 1938 in Moyock he was the son of the late Charley Sawyer and Bertha Jacks and was preceded in death by his step-father, Billy Jacks; late wife, Louise Sawyer; sister, Dorthy Mchorney; sister-in-law, Alethia Sawyer and grandchild, Dustin McGowan.
Allen began working at Roberts Brothers straight out of high school until approximately 1980. Allen then proceeded to work at Pasquotank ABC Board as a sales representative for roughly thirty-nine years. Allen loved to spend his spare time bird hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
His family includes his fiancee, Inez McGowan of Creswell, NC; children, Kim Sawyer of Angier, NC, Robyn Cockrell (Greg) of Rocky Mount, NC, Rhonda Brower (Eldon) of Elizabeth City, NC, Porky McGowan (Maricelia), Celeste Phillips (Joe), Chris McGowan all of Creswell, NC, Ken McGowan (Diane) of Siler City, NC, Quinton McGowan (LeAnn) of Edenton, NC; sister, Margaret Tucker (Wayne) of Wilmington, NC; brother, Victor Sawyer of Shawboro, NC; grandchildren, Heather Hartzog (AJ), Danile Cockrell (Chelsea), Bradley Cockrell (Tracy), Brandie Kuykendall, Whitney Salmeron (Patrick), Hannah McGowan (Clayton), Greg McGowan (Andrea); great grandchildren; Luke Waters, Taylor Waters, Cody Cockrell, Sarah Cockrell, Austin Cockrell, Andrew Kuyendall, Alexander Salmeron, Nicolas Salmeron, Liliana Martin, Parker Martin, Olivia McGowan, Hadley McGowan, Wyatt McGowan along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell. Family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
