Obituary for Lewis Staten Styons, Jr.
Lewis Staten Styons, Jr., 92, of Plymouth died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Penn Nursing Center in Reidsville. Born October 5, 1921 in Martin County he was the son of the late Lewis S. Styons, Sr. and Mary Hardison Styons and was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of their children, Helen Shanks Styons and second wife, Ava Allen Styons; sister, Margaret Styons Lynn; brothers, Phillip Styons, Nixon Styons, Marion Styons and William Styons. Mr. Styons was a retired Church of Christ Minister and member of Plymouth Church of Christ. He became a Christian in his youth and answered a calling to enter the ministry. God richly blessed his life and ministry by providing great opportunities to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His love of God, family and friends has brought great joy to those who have known him. His family includes his daughter, Mary S. Garrison and husband Robert of Greensboro, N.C.; sons, David L. Styons and wife Karen of Reidsville, N.C. and Stephen D. Styons of Wendell, N.C.; sisters, Helen S. Miller, Patricia S. Lynn and Melrose S. Waters all of Plymouth, N.C.; brother, Raymond E. Styons of Roper, N.C.; six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 am at Plymouth Church of Christ with Bob Moulden, Dr. David Eubanks, Fred Hedgepeth and Shannon Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Plymouth Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lewis Styons Preaching Scholarship Fund, Johnson University, 7900 Johnson Drive, Knoxville, TN. 37998. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
