Obituary for Harold Holmes 'Brother' Brinn
Our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Harold Holmes Brinn, Harold to friends, Brother and Uncler Brother to family, passed peacefully on December 8, 2011 at the age of 97. Harold was highly devoted to family and friends and was a man of many talents, most of which involved the use of his hands. After graduation from Columbia High School he went to Plymouth, N.C., eventually opening his beauty salon, The Bank Box Beauty Shoppe. He operated successfuly there until being drafted in WWII into the Army Medical Corp. After the war, he worked as a traveling hair stylist for Helene Curtis until he decided to settle down in Hendersonville, N.C. where he established his second and highly successful salon called Deluxe Beauty Shoppe. He retired and moved back home to Tyrrell County to take care of his parents Mamie Spencer Brinn and Harold C. Brinn and his uncle Vivian L. Brinn. After their passing, he continued residing in Tyrrell County until the age of 97. Music was a very important part of his life. He was a very gifted pianist/organist who played widely throughout his life, performing singer accompaniment and playing in churches, particularly in Tyrrell County and Plymouth. He brought much pleasure to many lives with his talents. Harold is survived by his brother, Charles Ed Brinn of Tyrrell County, N.C. and his sister, Ann Brinn Ward of Chesapeake, VA. His brother James Gaskill Brinn predeceased him in July of 1980. Other survivors are sister-in-law, Kathryn Morris Brinn (wife of deceased brother James Gaskill Brinn) and nieces and nephews; Anise Ward Connor and husband Tom of Norfolk, VA., Gwen DeJesus and husband Frank, David Ward and wife Wendy, Daniel Ward and wife Dawn all of Chesapeake, VA., Lois Brinn Daniels and husband Dan of Clearwater, FL., Dawn Brinn of Tampa, FL. and Jill Brinn Bauer of Olympia, WA., great nieces and nephews; Ann Harris of Portsmouth, VA., Joey Harris, Haley Ward, Clayton Ward and Grady Ward all of Chesapeake, VA., Toby Daniels and wife Amanda of Dunedin, FL., Brinn Ann Daniels and husband Nathan of Franklin, TN., James Brinn Daniels of Clearwater, FL. and Victoria Thornton of Miami Beach, FL. Harold was blessed also with four great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Reverend Fred Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Saturday following the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Creswell United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
