Obituary for Sarah L. Chesson
Mrs. Sarah Leary Chesson, 89, of Roper and more recently Plumblee Nursing Center, died May 31, 2010, at Washington County Hospital, Plymouth.
Born July 28, 1920 in Washington County she was the daughter of the late James F. and Isabella McAllister Leary and was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Chesson; sister, Marguerite Leary; brothers, William B. Leary and John "Jack" Leary. Sarah had worked in Wilmington, Delaware at Strawbridge and Clothier Department Store for fifteen years after which she and Tom returned to Roper to enjoy their retirement and family. She was a loyal member of St. Luke's/St. Anne's Episcopal Church and served on its vestry and altar guild. She was an avid crafter and gardener for many years and was an Avon Lady for a time. Watching and feeding her feathered friends also brought her much enjoyment.
Sarah is survived by her daughter, Brenda Knies of Newark, DE.; sister, Kathryn Wallace of Roper, N.C.; brother, Robert S. Leary and wife Doris of Moncks Corner, S.C.; her sister-in-law, Jacqueline Leary of Roper, N.C.; her grandson, Jacques Blanchet and wife Lisa; great granddaughter, Jacquelin of Elkton, MD and many nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to the Plumblee staff, her sister Kathryn and her caregiver Irene Bennett for their support and kindness.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's/St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Boush Street, Roper, NC. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
