Obituary for Ronald Matthew Sawyer, Sr.
Ronald Matthew Sawyer, Sr., 80 , of Creswell, North Carolina passed away Monday, November 19, 2018, at Signature Healthcare at Heritage Hall Rehab and Wellness Center in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. He was born October 19, 1938 in the house that he lived in most of his life, found on the Ambrose Road in Creswell, North Carolina. Ronald traveled all over the world, but always said there was no place like the Ambrose Road. He was the son of George and Minnie Davenport Sawyer. He had twin siblings, Mary and Joseph who died at birth and is survived by two sisters, Ora Woodley and husband Carol of Columbia, S.C., Rennie Wyatt of Williamsburg, Va.; brother-in-law, Earl Boman of Broadwater, NE. and sister-in-law, Grace Boman of McCook, NE.

He graduated from Creswell High School in 1956. Following high school he entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Moffett Field, California. After the Navy,he was married to Dora Boman Sawyer, who preceded him in death in 1994. Their family includes a son, Matt and his wife Paula of Lawrenceburg, KY.; daughters, Shannon Wilburn and her husband, Greg of Grayson, KY., Stephanie Cunto of Hendersonville, N.C., Allison Maready and her husband, Jonathan of Roper, N.C.; grandchildren, Taylor Settles and her husband Jordan, Brady Sawyer, Sydney Sawyer, Rachelle Harris and her husband, Wes, Ian Wilburn, Peyton Wilburn, Elena Cunto, Francesca Cunto, Garrett Maready, Andrew Maready, Ava Maready, and great grandchildren, Maci Harris, Blaire Settles, Sawyer Settles along with many nieces and nephews.

Ronald's faith was always important to him. He had a home at several churches that were important to him, including the church he grew up in; Philippi Church Of Christ, Creswell, N.C., Bridgeport Church Of Christ, Bridgeport, NE., Albemarle Church Of Christ, Columbia, N.C., Stinson Church Of Christ, Grayson, KY. and Corinth Christian Church, Lawrenceburg, KY.

Ronald was a farmer, feed salesman for Furst McNess Company and an over-the-road truck driver. He loved red Dodge trucks, horses, trail riding in Wyoming and boxer dogs.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Larry Woodley officiating. Burial will follow in Philippi Church Of Christ Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Roanoke Christian Service Camp, Washington, N.C.
