Henry Clyde "The Legend" Coltrain, 81, of Rodanthe and Williamston died Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at ECU Health Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Born March 30, 1941 in Martin County he was the son of the late Kinchen Hugh Coltrain and Fannie Louise Hardison Coltrain and was preceded in death by his brother, David Martin Coltrain, Sr. Clyde was a master carpenter and tile setter whose craftmanship and attention to detail was second to none. He loved spending his free time at the Rodanthe Fishing Pier and on many occasions his catch reflected that. On one such occasion he landed the largest King Mackerel ever caught off a pier and thus he earned the title, Clyde Coltrain "The Legend" and that record still stands today. He loved spending time with family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His family includes his sister-in-law, Phyllis Ange Coltrain of Williamston, N.C.; niece's, Juanita C. Pierce and husband John, Dawn C. Riddick and husband Rodney both of Jamesville, N.C. and Ginger C. Edwards and husband Brian of Williamston, N.C.; nephew, David Martin Coltrain, Jr. and wife Anita of Jamesville, N.C. and many wonderful friends.
Memorial service will be held Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Rodanthe Fishing Pier. All friends are welcome to attend.
Graveside service will be held Monday, October 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Tice Cemetery with David Gurganus officiating. Family will receive friends at the graveside following the service and other times at the residence of his sister-in-law, Phyllis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kid's Fishing Tournament, c/o Rodanthe Fishing Pier, 106 Medical Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
