Obituary for David Melford Alexander, Sr.
David Melford Alexander, Sr., born February 27, 1936, of Plymouth, NC was called home by his Father on June 21, 2020.
He was the son of Clarence Washington, Sr. and Polly Norfleet of Beaufort County, NC.
David grew up in Plymouth, NC where he developed a love of the outdoors and his church family.
He married Gladys Gray Adams in 1954 and became a devoted husband. David became a loving father to David Melford Alexander, Jr. and John Martin Alexander. After building their forever home, in 1969, they welcomed their third child, Jarahnee Gray Alexander.
He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Cade's Cove, Tennessee and watching deer roam. He was an avid hunter which led him on a 2 week trip out west to Prince George, Canada. Moose and rainbow trout were his hunting trophies.
He worked until retirement for Weyerhaeuser where he was a welder. He used his welding talents to make belt buckles and various jewelry. Even with a family and busy work life, he never faltered in his dedication to his church family.
David became a member of Plymouth Church of Christ, Plymouth, NC, in the 50's.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Gladys Alexander of Plymouth; three children and three grandchildren, Jesse Andrew Freeman, Spencer Alexander Freeman and DeeDra Nicole Cochran.
Of all the days David could have been called home his Father chose the time most meaningful to him to call David home.
