Obituary for William Randolph Gardner
William Randolph Gardner, 89, of Plymouth died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at University Health Care Hospice House in Greenville.
Born June 26, 1921 in Martin County he was the son of the late Walter Gardner and Lydia Hardison Gardner and was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Ruth Oliver Gardner; sister, Neva Faye Gardner Beach and brother, Ralph Gardner. Randolph was a retired parts manager with the former Manning Motor Company and was a member of First Christian Church. He served as Elder Emeriti, Senior Adult Sunday School Teacher for more than fifty years, Board Chairman of First Christian Church and past president of the Albemarle District of the Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a avid fisherman.
His family includes his daughter, Sherry G. Young of Greenville, North Carolina; sister, Mildred G. Dillon of Pell City, Alabama; brother, Wilbert Gardner of Williamston, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan Young and wife Erin, Kristi Allen and husband Andy; great grandchildren, Jordan, Drew and Chase Allen.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11:00 am at First Christian Church, Plymouth with Reverend V. Tom Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Greenville Hospice House or First Christian Church of Plymouth.
