William "Billy" Howard Chappell, 87, of Roper went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at ECU Health Hospice in Greenville surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 26, 1937 in Perquimans County he was the son of the late Howard Chappell and Bernice Winslow Chappell and was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rachel Sharpe and brothers, Charles Chappell and Ronald Chappell. Billy retired from Weyerhaeuser as a long distance truck driver. He was an active member of Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church serving as a deacon and church board member, a member of Roper Volunteer Fire Department and U.S. Army veteran. He showed his love of his Lord by helping and caring for others. He loved his family and friends. You were always greeted with a smile and everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him will truly miss him.
His family includes his loving wife Toledo Cammon Chappell of Roper, NC; daughters, Vanessa Chappell Leggett and husband Timothy of Winterville, NC, Patty Chappell Sharpe and husband Robert of Portsmouth, VA; sisters, Mary Lucille Jones of Roper, NC, Elizabeth Brinkley of Sunbury, NC and Kaye Winslow of Belvidere, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Leggett, Sierra Murray, Caleb Leggett, and Matthew Sharpe; great grandchildren, Faith, Jordan, Ryleigh and Isabel.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church with Reverends Ralph Leggett, Ronnie Casper, Timmy Leggett and Maurice Phelps officiating. A private family burial will follow. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at the residence.
