Obituary for William Haywood Modlin

William Haywood "Bill" Modlin, 94, of Plymouth, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 26,2023, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.


Born October 27, 1928 in Martin County he was the son of the late Haywood Modlin and Harriet Elizabeth "Betty" Waters Modlin and was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice Ann Rogerson Modlin; grandson, William David Steele; sons-in-law, Bob Nunally and Douglas Steele, sisters, Livie Sherman, Blanche Ricks, Dorothy Baggette, Essie Pearl Scott and Dolly Chesson; brothers, Mayo Modlin, James Modlin and Bobby Modlin.  Mr. Modlin retired as a towmotor operator with Weyerhaeuser Corporation with forty-three years' service and was a member of Hope Free Will Baptist Church.


His family includes his daughters, Joyce Modlin Steele of Plymouth, NC and Harriet Modlin Nunnally of Jamesville, NC; brothers, Raymond Modlin of Robersonville, NC and David Modlin of Plymouth, NC; special friend, Harry Sexton; grandchildren, Doug Steele, Jr. and wife Annaliesa, Stacie Hassell and husband Joe, Heather Dotson and husband Tommy and Beth Van and husband Dan; great grandchildren, Derek, Kimber, Kevin, Kelly, Ben, R.J., Victoria and Nick; great-great grandchildren, Kelsey, Olivia, Freya, Emily, Derek, Jr., Browning, Trenton, Nathan, Anniston, Kevin Jr., Emma Grace, Anderson, Aubrey, Mason, Maeleigh, Bryson and Bronson.


Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Leonard Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.  Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.


Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Hope Free Will Baptist Church.


Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
