Obituary for William "Billy" Sexton, Sr.
William Robert "Billy" Sexton, Sr., 86, passed away October 26, 2021. Billy was born in Plymouth, NC to the late George and Mildred Gurkin Sexton. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Emily S. Harrell and his granddaughter, Hannah E. Sexton. Billy was a retired farmer, a local businessman, a former Washington County commissioner, and was a member of Mackey's United Methodist Church in Roper, NC.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving Wife of 38 years, Joyce Pendleton Sexton; Children, William R. "Bill" Sexton, Jr. (Renee), Benjamin Mark Sexton, Tenita S. Swain (Johnny) all of Plymouth, NC, and Donna S. Short (Brian) of Wilson, NC, Step-children, Shelton F. Harrell, Jr. (Suzanne), Kent P. Harrell (Lisa) and Marianne H. Prim (Jeff); Grandchildren, Megan, Katelyn, Taylor, Jessica, Joanna, John, Mallory, Elizabeth Ann, Wesley, Abigail, Hunter, and Courtney; Great Grandchildren, Wyatt, Allie Mae, Cohen, Willa Kate, Josie Lyn, Thomas, Elsie Gray, Braelyn, Nash, and Wade.
The family would like to say a special Thank-you to Golden Way Home Healthcare of Washington, NC and Amedysis Hospice of Plymouth, NC who took great care of Billy with devotion and love in the last months of his life.
The family will receive friends at Mackey's United Methodist Church, 17 Mackey Ferry Rd., Roper, NC on Friday, October 29th, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A private family Funeral service will be held at Mackey's United Methodist Church, on Saturday, October 30th, at 1 o'clock pm. A graveside service open to the public will be held at 2:00 pm at Hillside Memorial Gardens, Hwy 32 South, Plymouth, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedysis Hospice, 201 E. Water St., Plymouth, NC 27962, or Mackey's United Methodist Church in care of Veronica Furlough, 211 General Pettigrew Dr., Plymouth, NC 27962.
