Obituary for Thelma Oliver Davenport
Thelma Oliver Davenport, 79, of Winterville and formerly of Roper died Friday, June 29, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Born July 25, 1938 in Washington County she was the daughter of the late Garfield Oliver and Bertha Jethro Oliver and was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Henry R. Davenport; sons, Richard Lee Davenport and James Christopher Davenport; sister, Ruth O. Brown and brother, Marvin L. Oliver. Thelma was a homemaker and member of Hope Free Will Baptist Church.
Her family includes her daughter, Sue Davenport Luton and husband Morris of Winterville, N.C. whom she resided with these past six years; brothers, Mahlon Oliver and wife Von of Plymouth, N.C., Melvin Oliver of Pungo, N.C. and Doug Oliver and wife Brenda of Roper, N.C.; sister, Doris O. Long and husband Buster of Plymouth, N.C.; sister-in-law, Juanita Eberlin and husband Larry of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, David Luton and wife Meagan, Tracy L. Shirley and husband Ryan, Joshua Davenport and wife Toya, Daniel Davenport and fiancee' Rachel, Marshall Davenport and wife Victoria, Nick Davenport and wife Michelle and Tyler Davenport and friend Cynthia; eleven great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Cooper, many loving nieces, nephews and special caregiver Clara King. She will always be remembered as a kind, patient, loving person who was always willing to lend an ear or help anyone in need.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Pastor Leonard Bowers officiating. A private burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the funeral home following the service.
