Obituary for Thelma Mollohan Johnson
Thelma Mollohan Johnson died April 15, 2011 at her home in New Bern, NC after a loosing battle with cancer. She was ninety-three years old.
Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glenn (Bob) Johnson of Plymouth, NC; mother, Alice Mollohan Hall and step-father, Everett B. Hall of Richwood, WV; son-in-law, William Roy "Bill" Harden, Jr. of Raleigh, NC.
She is survived by one sister, Nellie Hess Grose of Richwood, WV, three children, Mary Louise Leavitt and husband Peter of New Bern, NC, Janice Kay Harden of Raleigh, NC and Robert Eugene "Buck" Johnson and wife Doris of New Bern, NC. Seven grandchildren, Butch Harden of Raleigh, NC, Randy Harden of Statesboro, GA, Janet Leavitt Kruer of New Bern, NC, Amy Leavitt White of Jacksonville, FL, Steven Johnson of New Bern, NC, Brian Johnson of Fremont, CA and Stephanie Johnson Coker of Commerce, GA; fourteen great-grandchildren, all of whom were inspired by the integrity in which she lived her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who truly lived by the "Golden Rule"..... "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you".
Thelma grew up in Richwood, WV and moved to Plymouth, NC with her husband in 1941. After the death of her husband in 1980, she moved to New Bern, NC to be near her children and grandchildren and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
A service will be held at Maitland Funeral Home in Plymouth, NC on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 1:00 pm led by Reverend Susan Pate-Greenwood, Pastor of Centenary United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home following the service. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Centenary UMC Memorial Fund, 309 New Street, New Bern, NC 28560.
This world is a better place because she was in it, and Heaven just got sweeter because she is now there. She was loved by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will forever hold a special place in each of our hearts.
