Obituary for Ted Rowland 'Ron' Pinner, Jr.
Ted Rowland 'Ron' Pinner, Jr., 64, of Nashville died Friday, May 23, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Born November 17, 1949 in Washington County he was the son of the late Ted R. Pinner, Sr. and Shirley Sexton Pinner who survives. Ron graduated from ECU where he then began teaching. He went to Southern Nash Senior in 1977 as head football coach. The school only had varsity football and he split the team to form a junior varsity team so that the program would be stronger in the future. His varsity team went 0-10 that year and the JVs were 8-2. The next year the varsity was 9-1. He was head football coach, assistant baseball coach and athletic director at Southern Nash. He won coach of the year several times and his teams were often in the state playoffs. He left Southern Nash to join the insurance industry in 1982 and formed the Eastern Carolina Coaches Agency and won many awards. He dedicated his life to coaching not only his sons but many other children after he left Southern Nash. He was President of the Spring Hope Recreation Association for over ten years and started and coached the first and only Spring Hope American Legion Post baseball team. His family includes his mother, Shirley Sexton Pinner of Plymouth, N.C.; wife, Karen George Pinner of Nashville, N.C.; sons, Robbie Pinner and fiance' Tracy of Nashville, N.C., Ronnie Pinner, III of Holly Springs, N.C. and Reed Pinner and fiance' Amanda of Raleigh, N.C.; brother, Brady Pinner and wife Andrea of Greenville, N.C.; granddaughters, Logan and Abby; and niece, Jessica. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Plymouth with Reverend Jimmy Hagwood officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
