Born February 2, 1942 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Annie Leggett Hooker.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter Edison "Tiddle" Knowles, Jr.; great granddaughter, Ella Knowles; brothers, Cecil Hooker, Jr., Herbert Hooker, and sister, Annie Mabel Mixon.

Sue "Nana" was a retired industrial nurse having earned her degree at the Nursing School in Norfolk, Virginia.  She worked in several medical offices from pediatrics to older adults, finally retiring from the medical department at Domtar in Plymouth.

A Christian woman of strong faith and love for her Lord, she was an active member of Plymouth United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member, former Treasurer, a member of the Bible Study Group, and served on many church committees.  Her love of family ran deep in her heart and was shown in the time, love and care she gave to her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids; and her family loved her dearly.  She enjoyed cooking, growing plants and flowers, gardening, and playing bridge with several bridge clubs over the years.

Her family includes her son, Ricky Knowles and wife, Susan of Plymouth, NC; daughters, Karen K. Dakos and husband, L.J. of Chesapeake, VA, and Gwyn K. Watson and husband, Preston of Plymouth, NC; brother, Tommy Hooker of Corolla, NC, and sister, Lucille Robbins of Gambrills, MD; grandchildren, Barry W. Knowles and wife, Mandy, of Greenville, NC, and Brady A. Knowles and wife, Mary Beth, of Winterville, NC; great grandchildren, Jamison Knowles, Adalyn Knowles, Tanner Knowles and Tate Knowles; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Plymouth United Methodist Church, Plymouth, NC, with Reverend Vickie Woolard officiating.  Family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the residence.

Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to Plymouth United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 734, Plymouth, NC 27962.

The family appreciates all the love and support given to Nana by family and friends over the last several weeks.
