Obituary for Shirley Brobst Lee

Shirley was born in Washington County on November 17, 1952 to the late Morris and Sylva Ogden Brobst of Plymouth, NC.  


She is survived by her loving husband, Willie Benjamin Lee of thirty years; daughter, Fern Elizabeth Thomas of Raleigh; and grandson, Joseph Ogden Holt of Greenville.


Shirley was a devoted teacher and mentor for Washington County Schools for 30 years.  She instilled the gift of reading in her students that through reading they could achieve anything.  As a hands-on educator she selflessly provided opportunities for her students to have first hand experience through private field trips throughout the state of North Carolina.  She was awarded "Teacher Of The Year" in the past.  Shirley loved to travel and spent many years camping with Ben in the mountains of North Carolina.  She met her "Soul Mate" in 1994 and married in the same year.


She was a talented and creative cook, amateur photographer and a very artistic card maker.  She was loved by all, as she was a people person.  She was a animal lover, but loved her "Fur Babies - Chihuahua's" the best and had five at one time.


A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church located at 309 Washington Street, Plymouth, NC.  The family will visit with friends and have a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.


In lieu of flowers she wished donations be made to the Chihuahua Rescue and Transport at CRT, PO Box 2844, Durham, NC  27715.  Include your email address for a tax deduction.  


Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
