Obituary for Ruth Williams Holton
Mabel Ruth Williams Holton, 73, of Creswell died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
Born February 5, 1938 in Chowan County she was the daughter of the late Joel C. Williams and Leora Smith Williams and was preceded in death by her brother, Calvin Williams; sisters, Beulah Harrell, Lois Harris and Mary Distine Williams. Ruth retired as postmaster of Creswell Post Office with thirty year's service and was a member of the Assembly of Praise.
Her family includes her husband, Herbert Holton, Jr. of Creswell, N.C.; sons, Russell Holton and wife Teresa of Winterville, N.C., Phil Holton and wife Linda of Columbia, N.C., Jason Holton and wife Kimberly of Camden, N.C.; daughter, Joyce H. Comstock of Plymouth, N.C.; sisters, Ailine Foutch of Lancater, CA., Mary Elliott of Elizabeth City, N.C., Hazel Black of Edenton, N.C., Helen Forehand of Hickory, N.C. and Ruby Webb of Edenton, N.C.; brothers, Thomas Williams of Surry, Va., Melvin Williams of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Jack Williams of Creswell, N.C.; grandchildren, Robert Comstock, Jr., Christy Gibbs, Paul Comstock, Stephanie Holton, Matthew Holton, Evan Holton, Zachary Holton, Jamie Holton; great grandchildren, Nikki Gibbs and Kiara Gibbs.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Assembly of Praise, Columbia with Reverend Joe Pierce and Reverend Elmo Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Assembly of Praise and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
