Obituary for Ruth Willard Phelps
Ruth Willard Phelps, 95, of Creswell died Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Roanoke Landing in Plymouth. Born December 18, 1918 in Washington County she was the daughter of the late Daniel Makley Phelps and Mamie Estelle Barnes Phelps and was preceded in death by her husband, L.A. Phelps; son, David W. Phelps; sisters, Edna P. Leonhardt and Marian P. Stumptner. Mrs. Ruth retired from Creswell High School cafeteria with 22 years service and was a member of Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church. Her family includes her daughters, Toleda P. Dunbar and husband Jack of Pantego, N.C. and Teresa P. French and husband Rod of Winterville, N.C.; sons, Phillip W. Phelps and wife Helen, Danny C. Phelps and Terry W. Phelps all of Creswell, N.C.; sisters, Myrtle P. Crumpler and Ola P. Crumpler of Baltimore, Md., Erma P. Spruill of Roper, N.C., Mary P. Phelps of Plymouth, N.C. and Loretta P. Williams of Elizabeth City, N.C.; grandchildren, Donna Cutler and husband David, Jamie Dunbar and wife Leslie, David Phelps, Kenneth Phelps and wife Lauren, Brandy Ashman and husband Dusty, Courtney Barrett and husband Ronnie, Jason Phelps and wife LeeAnne, Danielle Braxton and husband Clay and Michael Furci; great grandchildren, Cole Phelps, Jackson Dunbar, Ruth Phelps, Rhett Braxton, Levi Barrett and Wilder Phelps. Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church, Creswell with Reverend Edwin Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
