Obituary for Russell B. ' Peanut' Oliver
Mr. Russell Bray "Peanut" Oliver, 81, of Plymouth died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Washington County Hospital, Plymouth.
Born June 1, 1928 in Washington County he was the son of the late John Pearlie Oliver and Dera May Jackson Oliver and was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Oliver, Douglas Oliver, Joe Oliver and Willie Oliver; sisters, Ollie R. Gardner, Barbara A. Doughtie, Nannie Lucas, Gladys Bateman and Louise Leggett. Russell retired from Weyerhaeuser Corporation with forty three and one half years' service as a wood yard maintenance supervisor and was a member of First Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, past president of the United Paper Workers Union and past president of the Joyner Field Girls Softball League. He was an original member of Washington County Hospital Ambulance Service and served as an Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician Trainer and CPR Instructor. He was a former member of the State Board of Emergency Medical Technicians.
His family includes his wife, Marie Modlin Oliver of Plymouth, N.C., sons, Charles D. Oliver and wife Monica of Gastonia, N.C., James R. Oliver of Plymouth, N.C. and R. Wayne Oliver and wife Tonya of Monroe, N.C.; brother, Eddie R. Oliver of San Bernardino, CA.; sisters, Lois O. Rouse of Trenton, N.C. and J. Faye Simon of Edenton, N.C.; grandchildren, Charles D. Oliver, Jr., Christopher D. Oliver and Cody W. Oliver; great grandchildren, Dawson R. Oliver, Charlie Elise Oliver and Alyssa G. Oliver.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11:00 am at First Christian Church, Plymouth with Reverend V. Tom Banks officiating. Family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Christian Church. Arrangements are Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
