Obituary for Rufus Carrol Carraway
Rufus Carrol Carraway, 83, of Plymouth died Friday, September 2, 2011, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth.
Born July 5, 1928 in Carteret County he was the son of the late Guy Morris Carraway and Bessie Wallace Carraway and was preceded in death by his sister, Hilda C. Walton; brothers, Glenn Carraway and Edwin Carraway. Mr. Carraway was a retired industrial salesman with East Carolina Supply and member of Plymouth United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, President of the Plymouth Food Pantry from 1996 to 2010 and Washington County Citizen of the Year in 1999. He received the N,.C. Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service and the Daughters of the American Revolution Award.
His family includes his wife of sixty-one years, Eunice Britton Carraway of Plymouth, N.C.; daughters, Beth C. Price and husband Grady of Plymouth, N.C. and Suzy C. Peele of Washington, N.C.; sons, David M. Carraway of Washington, N.C. and Carrol F. Carraway and wife Naomi of Plymouth, N.C.; grandchildren, Leslie Holyfield, Jason Carraway, Stacy Cheek, Brittony Peele, Nicholas Peele; step-grandchildren, Taylor Holyfield, Destiny Holyfield and Anna Holyfield; great grandchildren, Daniel Davis, Dusty Ray Davis, Dylan Davis, Bryan Cheek and Troy Cheek.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Plymouth United Methodist Church, Plymouth with Dr. Jay Clark and Reverend Jimmy Hagwood officiating. Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 4, 2011 following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence.
