Obituary for Roy Earl Tarkington
Roy Earl Tarkington, 80, of Creswell died Thursday, November 23, 2017, at his residence in Creswell.

Born October 12, 1937 in Washington County he was the son of the late Clyde T. Tarkington and Narcissus Alice Phelps Tarkington and was preceded in death by his son, Roy Earl Tarkington, Jr.; sisters, Alice E. Tarkington, Ruth T. Chesson and Rosalind T. Mitzke; brothers, Robert M. Tarkington and Samuel B. Tarkington. Roy was a retired logger and member of Philippi Church of Christ where he served twenty five years as a Deacon. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, member of American Legion Post 391 and member of the Hilly Dumplin' Hunting Club. Roy was honored as a State Farmer Member by the Creswell High School Future Farmers of America.

His family includes his wife, Sarah Jane Bateman Tarkington of Creswell, N.C.; daughters, Carol Tarkington Lane and husband Michael of Edenton, N.C. and Linda Tarkington Lip and husband Todd of Greenville, N.C.; brothers, Carl B. Tarkington and Albert B. Tarkington both of Creswell, N.C.; grandchildren, Morgan Jethro-Potts, Taylor Jethro, Tyler Clifton and Cassidy Clifton; great grandchild, Anais White.

Graveside service will be held Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Philippi Church of Christ Cemetery with Larry Woodley officiating. Family will receive friends on Sunday at the graveside following the service and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Philippi Church of Christ, 73 Old Cherry Road, Creswell, N.C. 27928 or The Alzheimers Association, 3739 National Drive, Raleigh, N.C. 27612.
