Obituary for Rosa Moore Askew
Rosa Moore Askew, 93, of Plymouth died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Roanoke Landing in Plymouth. Rosa was a native of Martin County, born on December 29, 1918, to the late Lee Roy Moore and Susan 'Sudie' Roberson Moore and was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Askew and brothers, Asa Moore and James Moore. Rosa was a graduate of Jamesville High School. After Rosa and her husband, Lonnie, both retired from the federal government in Washington, D.C., they returned to Plymouth to the farm where Lonnie was raised. After living there for three years, they then moved to Jamesville to Rosa's grandfather's homeplace, where they made their home until Lonnie died on October 2, 2006. After Lonnie's death, she was welcomed into the home of her niece, Debra Askew Avery, and her late husband, Steve, until she went to be with Lonnie. Rosa and Lonnie enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Rosa is survived by two sisters-in-law, Louise Moore of Jamesville and Agnes Moore of Red Oak; two nieces, Becky Moore of Rougemont and Malissa St. Clair of Clayton; nephew, James 'Jim' Moore of Jacksonville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Gardens, Plymouth with Reverend Doug Stokes officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth and Askew Funeral & Cremation Services, Roanoke Rapids.
