Obituary for Roney Allison Bissette, Jr.

Roney Allison Bissette, Jr., 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, September 7, 2023 at ECU Health Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born April 18, 1939 in Wilson County, NC to the late Emma and Roney Bissette, Sr. Roney accepted responsibility to become a steward to our country serving in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1957 to 1959.  In 1963 he wed the love of his life, Ann Bissette and became a beloved father to David and Alison while working as a boiler room operator for Weyerhaeuser.  Retiring in 2001, he achieved his dream to travel cross country with his right hand lady by his side. Roney was a lover of the outdoors.  If he wasn't fishing, hunting, or gardening you could find him in his swing watching the blue birds.  His interests changed when his granddaughters came along.  He cherished every second he spent with them.  There wasn't an event that he was not behind the camera filming and capturing the love he had for his family and friends.  His jokes and pranks always brought a laugh by everyone he was around.  In later years, he defined the meaning of dedication to true love and marriage as he provided and cared for his loving wife whom he lost in March of this year.  Roney loved his church family and was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Bissette; parents, Emma and Roney Bissette, Sr.; siblings, Alvin Bissette, Alfice Bissette, Mildred Brantley, and Rena Henderson.

His surviving family includes son, David Bissette (Kim) of Jamesville, NC; daughter, Alison Bell (Jim) of Ayden, NC; grandchildren, Morgan Hall (Ben) of Greenville, NC, Erica Worrell (Brad) of Wilson, NC, and Debbie Bissette of Stokes, NC; sister, Louise (Charles) Whitley of Wilson, NC

Memorial service will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Lee Price officiating.  Family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
