Obituary for Ronald L. Barnes

Ronald Lee "Ronnie" Barnes, 89, of Creswell, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville surrounded by his loving family.


Born January 2,1935 in Washington County he was the son of the late Charlie Latham Barnes and Hortense Ambrose Barnes and was preceded in death by his brothers, Jon W. Barnes, Sr., Charles L. Barnes, and Gerald L. Barnes.  Ronnie was a retired chemical analyst with Weyerhaeuser Corporation.  He was past master and member of Providence Lodge No. 678 AF & AM in Columbia for sixty years, member of Washington York Rite and a Sudan Shriner. He was a member of American Legion Post 391 and Creswell Ruritan Club.  He was the last founding member of Creswell Fire Department where he served for 40 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran with service in Alaska and member of Philippi Church of Christ. He loved God, family and country!


He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 70 years Daphne Spear Barnes of Creswell, NC; sons, Ronald L. "Ron" Barnes, Jr., and wife Carolyn of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Glenn E. Barnes and wife Patti of Washington, NC; sister, Margaret Barnes Furlough and husband John of Greenville, NC and brother, Charlie W. Barnes of Waynesboro, VA.; grandchildren, Anna Barnes McCarthy and husband  Brian, Ronni Barnes Sprague and husband Josh and Allison Barnes Jones and husband Benton; great grandchildren, Mitchell, Mason, Emma and Harrison.


Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Philippi Church of Christ with Glenn Brickhouse officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.. at the church and other times at the residence.


Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
