Obituary for Robert 'Bob' Louis Mitchell
Robert "Bob" Louis Mitchell passed from this life at the age of 79. He was born in Ahoskie, NC and was raised in Harrellsville, NC. He served in the United States Navy; then attended college at Chowan College, Murfreesboro, NC. He graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from Wake Forest University, Wake Forest, NC. Soon after graduation he moved his family to Plymouth and began a lifelong career with Weyerhaeuser. He traveled the world extensively, opened a Weyerhaeuser plant in Idabel, OK and then on to Eugene, OR before finally returning to Plymouth in 1974. He retired as a Pulp and Paper Production Manager in 1991. Prior to retirement he met and married Lois Weathersbee of Plymouth, in 1983, they built their new home on the shores of the Albemarle Sound. After retirement Bob enjoyed taking an active part in his church, Saints Delight Church of Christ, as well as tending his vegetable garden. He could easily be found out on the Albemarle Sound fishing and mentoring many would-be fishermen through his extensive knowledge of the inlets and bays, water temperatures and fish activity found within this region. He is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Jernigan Clements and his father, George Locke Mitchell of Ahoskie.
Survivors include his wife, Lois W. Mitchell of Roper, NC; brother, John Locke Mitchell of Ahoskie, NC; two daughters, Lynn Lane and Penny Beasley both of Woodland, NC; one son, Dr. Kenneth L. Mitchell of Atlanta, GA; a step-son, Dewayne Tetterton of Greenville, NC; four grandchildren, Trevor Lane of Rich Square, NC, Ryan Beasley of Woodland, NC and Katie and Amanda Tetterton of Greenville, NC.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 1:30 pm at Saints Delight Church of Christ, Roper with Lloyd Davis and Bob Moulden officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Friday, April 1, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth and other times at the residence.
