Raymond Douglas Bennett, 90, of Plymouth, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 16, 1932 in Martin County he was the son of the late Leonard Cleve Bennett and Effie Olivia Jones Bennett and was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel B. Williams, Kathleen B. Peele and Jean B. Bridges; brothers, Fred Bennett, Arthur Bennett, Howard Bennett and Noah Bennett. Mr. Bennett retired from Weyerhaeuser Corporation as a boiler room operator and was a gentlemen farmer. He was a member of Perseverance Lodge # 59 AF. & AM. for fifty years and member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
His family includes his loving wife, Nina Faye Latham Bennett of Plymouth, N.C.; son, Raymond Douglas Bennett, II and wife Cynthia of Pinetown, N.C.; daughters, Elaine Bennett Howard of Williamston, N.C., Judith Bennett Gurganus and husband Danny of Jamesville, N.C. and Brenda Bennett Plumblee and husband Terry of Shawboro, N.C.; sister, Lena B. Hungate of Greenville, N.C.; grandchildren, Olivia Matthews, Hunter Gurganus, Shelby Howard, Haven Howard, Jessi Simpson and Jonah Bennett.
Graveside service will be held Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Martin Memorial Gardens with Pastor Edgar Masencup officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
