Obituary for Peggy Daniels Spruill

Peggy Joyce Daniels Spruill, 87, of Roper, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation in Windsor.  She was surrounded by her loving daughters.


Born October 2,1936 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late James Daniels and Emmer Bell Hardison.  She was preceded in death by many loving family members, including her son-in-law, Burl Swain.  Peggy had many jobs during her life including a cashier at Roses in Plymouth and what was later to be known as Oliver's Market in Roper.  She also worked as office manager of McNair's Service Station.  She was a talented seamstress all of her life, making and designing clothes for her children and grandchildren, including her daughter Melissa's wedding gown.  She later owned and operated Peggy's Custom Draperies until she retired.


Peggy was a former member and sang in the choir at First Christian Church of Plymouth.  Later, she became a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and helped with Vacation Bible School.


Peggy's  family includes her husband, Danny Harrell Spruill of Roper, NC; daughters, Donna M. Swain of Roper, NC, Tammie M, Harrison and husband William of Roper, NC and, Melissa M. Turnage of Kill Devil Hills, NC; step-daughter, Michelle McCombs of Clayton, NC and step-son, Trevor Spruill and wife Brittanie of Plymouth, NC; grandchildren, Amanda Ivey and husband Kenneth, Brandy Shaw and husband Jerry, Brandon Harrison, Courtney Harrison, Emma Turnage and Ellis Turnage; great grandchildren, Caroline Shaw, Sara Shaw and Shelby Harrison; step grandchildren, Rachel McCombs, Lauren McCombs and Elizabeth Spruill.


The family would like to thank everyone for the hugs, love, kindness and sympathy shown to us during this heartbreaking time.  Also a special thank you to the staff and caregivers who provided such great care and love to our mom while she was a resident at Three Rivers Nursing Home.  We love and appreciate them all so much.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Holly Neck Church of Christ with David Watts and Eddie Bowen officiating.  Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.  Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
