Obituary for Paul Mitchell Edwards
Paul Mitchell Edwards, 69, of Creswell died Thursday, November 28, 2019, at his sister's residence in Roper, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 7, 1950 in Washington County he was the son of Mitchell E. Edwards who survives and the late Myrtle Roberson Edwards and was preceded in death by his sister, Bertha Mae Edwards. Paul was raised on his family farm in Creswell where he lived until joining the Army National Guard. Following his military service he returned to Creswell, started his family and continued farming. Through the years he became an ordained minister and served as pastor in several churches but always considered Cherry Church of God his home. He eventually left the family farm and became a correctional officer for the NC Department of Corrections from which he retired in 2015.
His family includes his father, Mitchell E. Edwards of Creswell, NC; daughters, Paula E. Edwards of Vancouver, Washington, Kim Cannon and husband Steven of Oak City, NC, Mandy Pendleton and husband Eddie of Scotland Neck, NC; step daughters, Justina Swain and Brandy Clark both of Creswell, NC; companion, Nora Spruill and her son Adam of Elizabeth City, NC; sisters, Iris Berry of Plymouth, NC and Rosa Harris of Roper, NC; brothers, Kelly Edwards and wife Judy of Creswell, NC and Les Edwards and wife Sharon of Roper, NC; adopted brother, Henry Spruill and wife Peggy; grandchildren, Landon, Nicholas, Parker, Kyle, Hunter, Emma Rae, Haden and Cooper.
Memorial service will be held Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Cherry Church of God, Creswell with David Phelps officiating. Family will receive friends at the church following the service and other times at the residence of his sister, Rosa. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cherry Church of God or Mid-County Ruritans.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
