Obituary for Myrtle Rawls Griffin

Myrtle Rawls Griffin, age 90, of Roper, North Carolina passed into Jesus' arms and her heavenly home on November 1, 2023 surrounded by her children.


Myrtle was born January 30, 1933 to the late Gilbert and Lena Rawls in Bear Grass.  On September 19,1954 she married Verlin Griffin and they made their home in Roper.  Together they raised five children in a loving home, teaching by example integrity and good character, always in Christian love.  Myrtle was a hard-working, determined farmer's wife and a dedicated, loving, quick witted mother who loved the Lord.  Family was Myrtle's joy and her unfailing focus.  She was a long-time member of Roper Baptist Church.  


She was predeceased by her parents, husband Verlin of 53 years, brother Robert Rawls, and son-in-law Ron Taylor.


She is survived by her children:  Debra Griffin of Alpharetta, Georgia, Keith Griffin of the home, Terri Taylor of Williamston, Jeff Griffin (Martha Rae) of Roper and Tim Griffin (Janet) of Roper.  Cherishing the memory of their Granny are grandchildren, Whitney Smith of New York City, Hannah Smith of Alpharetta, Georgia, Lydia Griffin of Jacksonville, Joseph Griffin of Dunn, and Katie Katzman (Michael) of Charlotte; great grandsons Sam and Will Katzman.  Myrtle is also survived by her brother, Joseph Rawls of Bear Grass and many nieces and nephews.


Per her wishes, no formal visitation will be held.  The family will be gathered at the Griffin home.  A graveside service will be held at Tice Community Cemetery, 1707 Piney Grove Church Road, Williamston on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, Myrtle's request was memorial contributions be made to Roper Baptist Church, PO Box 38, Roper, North Carolina  27970 or the organization of one's choice.


Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
