Obituary for Murry H. 'Bill' Askew

Mr. Murry Hassell "Bill" Askew, 83, of Plymouth died Monday, September 7, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Born July 24, 1926 in Washington County he was the son of the late George Pierce Askew and Dora Bowen Askew and was preceded in death by his sister, Hilda Hardison; brothers, Russell Askew and Ray Askew. Mr. Askew was a retired digester operator with thirty-eight years service at Weyerhaeuser Corporation and with his wife Dorothy owned and operated Askew's Used Cars for forty years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and member of the Plymouth Church of the Nazarene.
His family includes his wife, Dorothy Smithwick Askew of Plymouth, N.C.; daughters, Linda Carol Markham and husband Jerry of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Dorothy Gail Cornwell and husband Jerry of Williamston, N.C.; sons, Phillip Ray Askew and wife Janel of Plymouth, N.C. and David Rex Askew and wife Patty of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister, Esther Harrison of Plymouth, N.C.; grandchildren, John Brothers and wife Holly, Scott Brothers and wife Julie, Pam Black and husband Doug, Daryl O'Neal, Jason Askew and wife Lisa, Heather Askew, David Niel Askew, Laura Vargas and husband Yeshua and Brittney Stepanek; great grandchildren, Blake Copeland, Hannah Black, Jason Phillip Askew II, Bryce Askew, Margaret Brothers, Anne Paul Brothers, Adam Hill, Dominque Vargas and Sophia Vargas.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth with Reverend Tim Lichtley officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Maitland Memorial Chapel and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
