Obituary for Mitchell Easley Edwards
Reverend Mitchell Easley Edwards, 100, of Creswell died Monday, September 7, 2020, at his daughter's residence in Roper.
Born May 18, 1920 in Washington County he was the son of the late John Arthur Edwards and Ida Hassell Edwards and was preceded in death by his wives, Myrtle Roberson Edwards and Katie Edwards; daughter, Bertha Mae Edwards; son, Paul Mitchell Edwards; sisters, Edna Wilson, Modelion Bennett; brothers, Kie Edwards, Gilbert Edwards, Fred Edwards, Kelly Edwards and John Edwards.
Mitchell was a minister having served Edenton Church of God, Cherry Church of God, Gum Neck Church of God, Manns Harbor Church of God and Simons Creek Church of Elizabeth City. His most loved undertaking was his radio ministry of Edenton where he enjoyed bringing the message of his Lord and Savior. He formed M.E. Edwards and Son's of Creswell and together with his sons were farmers, a fertilizer dealer and he later ran a used car business. Mitchell was an inspiration to all who knew him, and leaves behind many wonderful memories of a life well lived.
His family includes his daughters, Rosa Edwards Harris of Roper, N.C. and Iris Corine Edwards Berry of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Arthur Kelly Edwards and wife Judy of Creswell, N.C., Mitchell "Les" Edwards, Jr. and wife Sharon of Roper, N.C.; step-sister, Viola Parker of Chesapeake, VA.; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Azalea Memorial Gardens in Columbia with Steve Mizell and David Phelps officiating. Family will receive friends at the graveside following the service and other times at their individual residences. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Samaritans Purse.
