Obituary for Milton Harrell Phelps
Milton Harrell "Slick" Phelps, 89, of Creswell died Friday, June 16, 2017, unexpectedly at his home.
Born August 30, 1927 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Milton Claude Phelps and Alethia Picolia Allen Phelps and was preceded in death by the Mother of his children, Martha P. Jordan on June 26, 2007; sister, Ethel P. Womble Overton and brother, Syd William Phelps. Slick was a retired pipe fitter with Weyerhaeuser Corporation, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, long distance truck driver, farmer, log truck driver and member of Philippi Church of Christ in Creswell where he has been holding offices both past and present.
His family includes his daughters, Shirley P. Jett and husband Clyde of Plymouth, N.C., Doris P. Morris and husband Lee of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Harrell Phelps and wife Betsy of Conway, N.C. and Edward Phelps of Plymouth, N.C.; brothers, John Ireland Phelps of Saint Leonard, MD, Harry Thomas Phelps of Columbia, N.C., Jerry Lee Phelps and Larry Wayne Phelps of Creswell, N.C.; sisters, Mildred Ann P. Burch Nadeau of Chesapeake, VA., Rena Mae P. Sexton and husband Preston of Creswell, N.C. and Mary Alethia P. Coburn of Greenville, N.C.; grandchildren, Luther Jett and wife Laura, Eddie Morris, Jimmy Morris and wife Mary Marshall, Debbie and husband Kenny Mizelle and Jennifer Brickhouse; great grandchildren, Cara, Gracie and Lainey Jett, Stevie Morris, Kaylee Morris, Albion and Rowyn Mizelle, Tony Swain and Heidi Brickhouse and great-great grandchildren, Allison Morris and Ella Lynn Swain.
Memorial service will be held Monday, June 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Philippi Church of Christ, Creswell with Thomas Biggs officiating. Family will receive friends following the service at the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Philippi Church of Christ Children's Mission Fund.
