Michael "Mike" Ryan Martin, 78, of Creswell, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was a graduate of the first graduating class of Bertie High School where he excelled at football and was voted by his classmates as "Most Friendly."  He graduated from North Carolina State University.  Mike owned and operated a hog and cattle farm for years.  He later worked as an EMT with Washington County Hospital.

Born with a servant's heart, Mike was a member of the Creswell Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years (continuing to do so at the time of his death), served as an EMT with Washington County EMS for 39 years, served as an elected official on the Washington County Soil and Water District for 20 years, served on the Albemarle Resource Conservation and Development Council for 15 years, and served on the Washington County Planning Board.  Additionally and most importantly, he was an active member of his beloved Creswell Baptist Church.

Mike will be remembered for his infectious smile and for the caring person he was.  He never met a stranger!  He loved his wife, his family. church family and his many friends that he met along his life's path.  It was obvious that he loved helping people by all the years he spent volunteering.
