Obituary for Mary Lillian Davis
Mary Lillian Harrell Davis, 83, of Belhaven died Monday, April 20, 2020 at her residence in Belhaven.

Born July 11, 1936 in Bertie County she was the daughter of the late Willie Robert Harrell and Sallie Mae Castellow Harrell and was preceded in death by her husband, James Davis; sons, Carl Robert Spry and William Davis Spry; brothers, Linwood "Buddy" Harrell, James "J.C." Harrell and Robert Earl Harrell. Mary Lillian graduated from Harrellsville Private School in 1954. She later attended Kee's Business College in Norfolk, Virginia. At Kee's she was taught the "keypunch card" system. She often laughed about how this antiquated system pre-dated computers but enabled her to launch a successful and proud career with the United States Federal Government, Naval Weapons Station in Security. She was later transferred to Cheatham Annex, Williamsburg, Virginia in security for the transport vehicles to enter and exit the base. Other than security, Mary Lillian's other professional hat was her appointment as a Federal Union Representative. She enjoyed helping those she represented with their grievance cases.

Mary Lillian loved dogs and owned dogs until her two spoiled rotten Cocker Spaniels "Libby" and "Handsome" crossed the Rainbow Bridge this past year.

Her family includes her son, Lonnie Edward Spry of Belhaven, N.C.; daughter Robin Mae Spry Centner of Greenville, NC; sisters, Willie Mae Reese of Plymouth, NC, Helen Newby of Plymouth, NC and Hazel Cooksey of Jacksonville Beach, FL; brothers, Forest "Jack" Harrell and wife Diane of Violia, AR. and John "Buck" Harrell and wife Shirley of Murfreesboro, NC, seven grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank "Meals On Wheels", Dr. Mark Beamer and his staff and most especially Sylvia Windley for her loving and devoted home health service.

A graveside memorial service will be held on July 11, 2020 at the Family Plot in Harrellsville, North Carolina with John "Buck" Harrell officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mary Lillian's childhood church, Christian Harbor Baptist Church, 1432 Swains Mill Road, Harrellsville, NC 27942. Mary Lillian's favorite memories as a child involved the entire family's weekly church attendance, mother-daughter banquets, "candy pulls", hayrides, dressing up and socializing with her friends.

Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
