After some time spent at home, she started helping her mother-in-law, the late Juanita Ambrose with Granny's Closet and later worked at Brenda's Flowers and Gifts. Her final job was at Food Lion where she had her best friend by her side, the late Diane Satterwaite. Throughout her life she and Bennie traveled all over the United States seeing all the sights and taking their time doing so. She enjoyed walking for exercise, reading, doing her crossword books, and sitting on the front porch with her beloved companion Chewy.

Surviving, her husband of 58 years, Bennie of the home; daughter, Michelle "Missy" Harrell and husband Jay of Wilson; grandson, J.P.
