Obituary for Marvin Leslie Davenport
Marvin Leslie Davenport, 91, of Creswell died Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth. Born January 20, 1922 in Washington County he was the son of the late Leslie Davenport and Issler Craddock Davenport and was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Phelps Davenport; sister, Merina D. Brabble; brothers, Howard Davenport and Floyd Davenport. Marvin was co-owner of Davenport's Market of Creswell for 47 years and a member of Mt. Tabor Free Will Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and member of American Legion Post 391. His family includes his daughter, Judy D. Spear and husband Tim of Creswell, N.C.; sons, James Marvin Davenport and wife Judy of Creswell, N.C., Ronald Davenport and wife Fay of Raleigh, N.C. and Tim Davenport and wife Kathy of Plymouth, N.C.; sisters, Irene D. Rayburn of Jacksonville, FL. and Mary D. Spruill of Roper, N.C.; brother, Harris Davenport of Creswell, N.C.; ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Tabor Free Will Baptist Church with Edwin Hill, Russell Smith, Bob Moulden and Cleve Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
