Obituary for Marlyn Whitehead Stanfield
Marlyn Whitehead Stanfield, 77, of Plymouth died Friday, September 2, 2016, after a long illness.
Born May 18, 1939 in Norfolk, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Ruby Lee Whitehead, Jr. and Elna Barnes Whitehead and was preceded in death by her brother, Lt. Colonel Ruby Lee Whitehead, III. Marlyn began her working career with Virginia Electric and Power Company. After moving to Plymouth in 1963 she worked 34 years as administrative secretary for North Carolina State University at the Tidewater Research and Extension Center in Roper until her retirement. In her later years she worked as secretary for Blacklands Farm Managers, Western Steer and Port Of Plymouth Inn. She was a member of Plymouth United Methodist Church.
Her family includes her daughters, Stacy Lynne Stanfield of Greenville, N.C. and Shelly Stanfield Brabble and husband Tony of Plymouth, N.C.; son, Kevin Scott Stanfield of Moultrie, Ga.; brother, Leland Edward Whitehead and wife Sam of Paradise Valley, AZ.; grandchildren, Casey Modlin and wife Britt of Greenville, N.C., Alexandra Stanfield of Fitzgerald, Ga., Gage Brabble, Sydney Brabble and Holley Brabble all of Plymouth, N.C.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Plymouth United Methodist Church with Dr. Jay Clark and Reverend Jimmy Hagwood officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday following the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be held Monday, September 12, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
