Obituary for Mahlon S. Moore
Mr. Mahlon Satterthwaite Moore, 85, of Plymouth died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his residence.
Born November 13, 1923 in Washington County he was the son of the late Walter Moore and Virginia Satterthwaite Moore. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Lewis Moore; sisters, Myra M. Ward and Martha L. Moore; brothers, Marshall L. Moore and Thomas L. Moore. He retired as a supervisor of the wood yard at Weyerhaeuser with forty years service and a member of Plymouth Church of Christ. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict serving in the 42nd Calvary and received the Lipizzan Stallion Award for meriterious service. He was a member of Perserverance Lodge No. 59, was a 4-H Livestock Show supporter for fifty-one years, a Gentleman Farmer and inventor of special saw used by the mill.
His family includes his wife, Margaret Bagley Phelps Moore of Plymouth, N.C., daughers, Jan M. Price and husband Bennie of Jamesville, N.C., Myra M. Carter and husband Jerry of Plymouth, N.C., Melinda M. Farrell and husband Steve of Raleigh, N.C., Mary M. Peed and husband Tommy of Plymouth, N.C., and Regina M. Landing and husband David of Washington, N.C.; son, Mahlon S. Moore, Jr. and wife Doris of Floral Park, N.Y.; step daughters, Joan P. Harrell and husband Joe of Plymouth, N.C., Angelia P. Phelps and husband Troy of Washington, N.C. and Faith P. Noell and husband David of Plymouth, N.C.; step son, Jerry Phelps of Plymouth, N.C.; twenty-five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Plymouth Church of Christ with Bob Moulden officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm at Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
