Obituary for Louis Marvin Spear
Louis Marvin Spear, 89, of Roper died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville. Born September 6, 1922 in Washington County he was the son of the late Jacob R. Spear and Dessie Phelps Spear and was preceded in death by his brothers, Allen Spear, Wilton Spear, James 'Bill' Spear and Raymond Spear. Louis was a retired welder and pipefitter, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and member of Scuppernong Church of Christ. He was past master and member of Providence Lodge No. 678, AF & AM, member of American Legion Post 391 for fifty-seven years, past member of Mid-County Ruritan Club and member of United Association of Journeyman Plumbers and Pipefitters. His family includes his wife, Doris Hassell Spear of Roper, N.C.; sons, Randall Louis Spear and wife Cynthia of Roper, N.C., Timothy Lee Spear and wife Judith of Creswell, N.C., Neal Gordon Spear and wife Linda of Roper, N.C.; sister, Ineida S. Davenport of Plymouth, N.C.; brother, Paul Spear of Creswell, N.C.; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Scuppernong Church of Christ, Creswell with Cleve Edwards, Russell Smith and Thomas Biggs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Scuppernong Church of Christ. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
